Brothers and Sisters,
An interesting thing happened to me last weekend here in Livonia where I live. Even here in honky Livonia there is a Rainbow community growing, which is surprising considering how many of my suburban comrades are into a low energy downer trip. (I lost the friendship and mind of a buddy last summer thanks to speed.) Friday night I scored some pretty good weed and upon jiggling the baggie a small white object appeared through the green chopped up leaves. I eagerly pulled it out and enclosed is what I found. "Free John Now"

Free John Now-Power to the Rainbow Nation!
A brother from Livonia

Dear Leni,
With me I have a rather tattered September issue of the A. A. SUN. Even before reading your paper I felt a great deal of empathy for poor John. Now, I've come to realize the true significance of his plight, and more especially the similarity of our hassle with the government. We've both been convicted under the reigning marijuana laws but in actuality are confined for socio-political reasons.

Very briefly: I'm a 21 year old Englishman who traveled to the U. S. two years ago. In October 1970 I was busted for possession and am now serving a six year sentence for my humble mistake. Six years is not ten, nevertheless, the fact remains monstrously incredible. One more sad victim of justice at the hands of an ignorant and irrationally prejudiced majority. Amen.

Yeah, my nerves are shot to hell, ergo the shakey handwriting. Since last July I've been in the Hole for non-cooperation. No need to explain further. And if you're interested, I'll see about scratching a contribution together for the Sun.

Love to my brother prisoner-Blessings on you all.

Brothers and Sisters,
For the first time in 4-1/2 months, I read the Ann Arbor SUN. It was a bomb. You see, I've been locked up in a state training school in Whitmore Lake. I've been a true party member and always will be one. I'm so out of touch with the outside world that when I heard of John's appeal and bond it made me cry. I sat in my cell and started to think of the five months I've done here, then I was thinking of John's ten years. Wow, that's a fucking long time. I'm sure glad the state thinks I'm a small time revolutionary. I'm hoping to send some money to the John Sinclair Freedom Fund, I hope all the people that read this will do the same. We need John out NOW! Good Good luck brothers and sisters, it's going to be a hell of a fight. I wish I was out there to lend a hand. Free John Now! Pray for Peace. All power to the People.

Brother Lee Martin

To the UP, and Rainbow People,
First, Frank, Bob, Gary and Scott, you really kick my ass in!!! Everytime you jam somewhere I end up in a frenzy because of your band. Music, a far-out stage act, talent and beliefs is what I think makes the UP the "UP". Keep rockin & rollin and remember . . . HIGH ENERGY IS TOTAL ENERGY!!!

Second, I'm sitting in my room wondering how long I can wait until our brother John is freed from prison. It's very cruel and unjust, and if he isn't out of there soon, there's no tellin what may happen. We must stay together to Free John NOW!!! Rainbow power to the life culture! Let it grow!
