SUN RA Af ter Led Zeppelin' s exoected shitty performance on Prlday the fifteenth of this month at the Grandeous Ballroom, the remainder of the weekend fs blll Just had to be better. I never expected anything like what went down Saturday and Sunday. I had had some vague idea of what to expect from Sun Ra from listenlng to various albums but I had never bef ore caught them live. WOWÜimimini! Brother Wayne Kramer had informed me that "Brother Ra is hip to it all," and I found out "it's truel" when I saw it all. Ra, who was on bef ore the MC5 and after Cartoone and the Golden Earring paralyzed an unsuspecting audience who had i come to the Grande to süend money and stay allve with the MC5. They had no kind of idea what Sun Ra vías all about but they all walked out of the ello Joint with some kind of glassy look on their faces and lt wasn't the oot and lt wasn't the acid. Sur Ra llterally mesmerlzed the klds. He too. The Cartoone olayed killer sets both nlhts, satlsfylng the audience who exoected just another Brltlsh group. All of the dudes really bopped on stage whlle playlng. The Golden Earrlng, f rom Holland, sounded alot llke the Byrds muslcally; vocal s were good, nothlng llke I had ever heard bef ore. G.E. freaked he audience by ülaylng the Byrd's Elght Miles High In a trui y killer fashlon and I even enjoyed lt (I have a bad hablt of not enjoylng another group's adaptatlon of an orlg lnal -type -hype ) . The great Thlng about Saturday and Sunday was that the people were really happy. Probably 'oause lt only cost the klds 13.50 lnstead of the usual .50 Glbb and Glantz charge for one group. GET DOWN!
