Spring Firehouse Cleaning - As area housewives are aware, it's that time of year for cleaning up--and in this case it's really "UP." Ann Arbor firemen at the central station yesterday were using their aerial ladder truck to maneuver a man to a high window in the tower at E. Huron and N. Fifth Ave.

New Front: This new aluminum and ceramic tile store front at The Quarry, Inc., of 318-20 S. State St., "ties" the firm's pharmacy and photographic and hospital supply units together. Display window space has been enlarged and an entry ramp eliminate and doorways moved to the sidewalk edge. Thomas S. Tanner of Ann Arbor was the architect. The remodeling work was completed by Kurt Lange, a local contractor.

Carnival Time: A festive atmosphere prevails in the S. Main business area this week where more than a dozen carnival rides have been erected to entertain shoppers during Bargain Days. Soap Box Derby racers are on display in tents in the 200 block.

Headed for Washington: Capt. Walter E. Krasny will leave next month to attend a three-month course at the Federal Bureau of Investigation's National Academy in Washington, D.C. Capt. Krasny, second in command with the police department, has been an officer for 22 years.
