Ex-teacher honored at tea: About 100 residents turned out for the Patsy Chandler Birthday Club Tea Sunday at the Perry Child Development Center where former Ypsilanti educator C. Eugene Beatty was honored. Proceeds from the tea will go towards the creation of a bust of Beatty that the club plans to place at the center. Clockwise from upper left, soprano Ruthie Marshall and pianist Mary Taylor perform; guest speaker Lowell Perry watches as Beatty gets a hug from 17-year-old Meredith Perry; the crowd joins in song and prayer; Ypsilanti Mayor Pete Murdock presents Chandler with a plaque honoring her many years of community service.
