People's Astrology

by Genie Plamondon

This week Venus and Mercury are making major moves into different signs, both on the same day. On Tuesday the 6th Venus will be moving into Cancer and Mercury will be moving into Leo. Venus is the planet of love and relationships with other people. Cancer is the sign most related to our home lives. Cancer is the Mother-Earth principle, very open, nourishing and protective. It is also the crab, concerned about its home at all times, gathering things into itself and holding them. Cancer is the cardinal water sign, ruled by the Moon, and is very emotional and changeable. It is the formation of the subjective self , i.e. the personality.

Venus in Cancer will make us more aware of the love we have, or should have for our homes, possibly making us painfully aware of the shortcomings of the family structure as constituted today in America. Working along with the fact that Uranus has gone direct in Libra again signaling emphasis on revolution, great changes, in the way people relate to each other, Venus in Cancer will hopefully put a lot of that emphasis on examining our home lives. The family structure has so much to do with the basic whole structure of the society, and therefore the basic whole way people relate to each other- either capitalistically (exploitative and competitive) or COMMUNEistically (cooperative and just). Venus in Cancer could tend to get a little dreamy and watery and over emotional, but if realized and dealt with can be flowing and easy and feeling good. Venus in Cancer will be an extremely sensitive time at any rate.

Mercury moving int o Leo on the same day adds a lot of fire. Leo is the fixed fire sign, it is ruled by the Sun and represents the Sun at it's most manifest, it represents creation and the strong will of the personality. Mercury was the messenger of the gods and has winged feet- it rules the central nervous system and also has to do with the way we relate to each other in that it rules communication, teaching, learning objective facts. With Mercury in Leo hopefully people will be into creative ways of communicating. New ways of thinking about everything are the order of the day, we also have to think of new ways to communicate all that we are learning and questioning, letting our mind and dreams develop beyond the controlled images we are forced to face every day in magazines, on t.v., on billboards, in movies. Mercury in Leo will also put strong will power behind the need to communicate, more and more people are understanding the need and the possibility of coming together as a people. At it's worst, Leo is fixed (fire) and can get stuck, fixed, In some way or another... we have to break through that and use its creative energ and its will to get done what we have to do.

The other really major movement this week is the full Moon in Capricorn Thursday the 8th. The full Moon is responsiveness and sensitivity at its fullest- the Moon rules the way we react to everything. Capricorn, is the most practical sign of all. It is ambitious, often public and brings things out into the open. Capricorn is symbolized by the mountain goat, but with a fish's tail- it has high goals, but is held back and put through much struggle by the fish's tail. The Moon in Capricorn is usually good feelings because it is practical, so people don 't have such a strong tendency to fly off the handle reacting to different intolerable people or situations. So many of us go through intolerable situations every day of our lives because of the inadequacy of the system of government in this country. I keep remembering Brother Malcolm X when he talked about how any Saturday night you can go into the emergency room of any hospital and you'll find brothers and sisters beat up, knifed, shot, etc., and it's not from fighting the real enemy, it's from fighting each other. I'm not saying that we have to get down to why people react the way we do to each other... knowing the Moon 's position will help us relearn positive ways of relating to each other and using available energy.

This week too is the 4th of July. Supposed to be Independence Day for America. Meanwhile, the American Revolution continues, and the Moon will be in Scorpio that day. Intense reactions that can be very high... but be wary.
