NEW PEOPLE'S FLICKS

The Ann Arbor Newsreel collective now has many new films for distribution to the community. Topics range from ecology, women, and schools to a feature length cartoon. In the past, all distribution had to be done by booking films from other newsreels in the Midwest and East. It was as a result of discussion of this problem, at a recent Newsreel International meeting, that we received the new films.

One of the new films we have is Salt of the Earth, a full length film. We are planning a benefit with Salt at 330 Thompson on July 7th and 9th. Money raised by the benefit will be used to buy badly needed equipment. Also, to pay the rent on two offices we are leasing in the Nickels Arcade. One of them will become the Newsreel office, and the other one will provide a permanent (hopefully) location for the Polis literature program.

Ann Arbor Newsreel is being run by a very small group of people. More people are needed to expand Newsreel to its full potential. In addition to distributing films and organizing, we need people to learn the skills of film making along with us. People with film making skills are especially needed. We are planning to have regular internal political education meetings, which we believe are necessary to establish a unified direction. All this will mean a heavy time commitment from Newsreel members.

A list of our films is available at our office or at the Sun. People interested in Newsreel work should contact us at 769-7353. Call us too to arrange showings for whatever group you're a part of.      In Love and Struggle  -AANR
